 2/11/26 - HS Match Recap - Medina

The last regular match of the season was finally upon us - a make-up match against the always tough Medina HS team - at AMF North Ridgeville Lanes. Three out of our four teams came away with wins.

The varsity boys reached down to the JV team for a little help while a couple of our bowlers were unable to go, but that did not deter their spirit against a very good Medina team. The first game saw our boys come out hot on lanes they had not seen this year while Medina struggled a bit, which allowed us to open a 109-pin lead after one. The second game we cooled off a little while Medina started to find some of their shots as our lead was cut to 65 pins heading into the Baker games. Medina tried to mount a comeback held firm to capture the win 2229 to 2193. Gus Hoops had high game (221) and high series (423). Also bowling well were Gavin Toothman (214 game/388 series) and Drew Hetsler (211 game/386 series). The team Baker games were 205 & 181.

The JV boys only had 4 bowlers for the match due to the callup to the varsity team. The first game saw our boys bowl pretty good, but Medina's extra bowler really made it impossible as they opened a 208-pin lead. The second game was not any better as their lead grew to 428 pins. Two Baker games later and Medina walked away with the match 1905 to 1473. Our Baker games were 135 & 120. Andrew Nickolay had high score (206) and high series (364). Also bowling well were Lucas McMullen (173 game/331 series) and Zachary Skomrock (173 game/316 series).

Medina does not field girls teams so our varsity girls & JV girls teams were both credited with wins.

The next event on the schedule is the Northeast Districts. Our varsity boys team will be competing on Friday, February 20th at Rebman Recreation in Lorain starting at 10am. Brooke Yeager and Kaitlyn Drew from our girls team will be competing on Saturday, February 21st at Rebman Recreation starting at 10am.

2/9/26 - HS Match Recap - North Ridgeville

There was no rest for our KHS bowling teams as we were back on the lanes for a make-up match against a very strong North Ridgeville HS team - at Nautical Lanes in Avon Lake. Unfortunately all four of our teams took a loss on the night.

The varsity boys were riding high after claiming a spot in Districts the previous day, but the combination of the flu, injuries and facing a difficult team were going to prove to be too much to overcome. The first game saw our boys come out pretty good on lanes they had not seen this year, but North Ridgeville came out hot to open a 135-pin lead after one. The second game was similar to the first game as our boys weren't bowling bad but North Ridgeville was really good as their lead expanded to 218 pins heading into the Baker games. Unfortunately, North Ridgeville did not cut us any slack in Bakers as they walked away with the win 2212 to 2186. Gavin Toothman had high game (220) and high series (433). Also bowling well was Drew Hetsler (207 game/388 series). The team Baker games were 212 & 175.

Our varsity girls were down a number of our starters, which gave several of our JV bowlers a chance to get some varsity experience. The first game was difficult as most of our girls struggled with their shots while North Ridgeville quickly found theirs, allowing them to open a 217-pin lead. The second game was better for our girls, but North Ridgeville was bowling on another level as their lead expanded to 403 pins heading into the Baker games. Two Baker games later and North Ridgeville wrapped up the win 1910 to 1411. Kaitlyn Drew had high game honors (164) while Ava Holztrager and Hailey Wilson tied for high series (235). The team Baker games were 134 and 136.

The JV boys were behind the eight ball with only 4 healthy bowlers for the match. The first game saw our boys bowl fairly well, but North Ridgeville's extra bowler made it an uphill battle as they opened a 122-pin lead. The second game our boys bowled well, but the lead grew to 157 pins. Being down a bowler really hurt during Bakers as North Ridgeville put away the match 1742 to 1480. Our Baker games were 102 & 100. Zachary Skomrock had high score (196) while Andrew Nickolay had high series (362). Also bowling well was Xander O'Brien (165 game/322 series).

Due to our shortage of available girls, we did not field a JV girls team for this match.

We have one last make-up match scheduled for Wednesday, February 11th at AMF North Ridgeville Lanes in North Ridgeville.

2/4/26 - HS Match Recap - Olmsted Falls

Our KHS bowling teams celebrated Senior Night facing our 3rd tough D1 school in a row - this time Olmsted Falls HS - at Strikeout Lanes. Unfortunately, only our JV boys came away with a win.

The varsity boys were facing another difficult team, but felt good being at home for the last time this season. The first game saw our boys come out strong as they found their shots early, which allowed us to open a 45-pin lead after one. The second game our boys stayed on point as Olmsted Falls had some struggles resulting in our lead expanding to 122 pins heading into the Baker games. Unfortunately, the Baker games were not kind to us as Olmsted Falls cut the lead to 60 after one Baker, then came all the way back to take the win away from us 2238 to 2207. David Jones had high game (224) and high series (413). Also bowling well were Quinn Andel (214 game/402 series) and Drew Hetsler (200 game/376 series). The team Baker games were 151 & 156.

Our varsity girls were also facing another strong girls team but were happy to be back at home. The first game was not kind to us as most of our girls struggled with their shots while Olmsted Falls quickly adjusted, allowing them to open a 188 pin lead. The second game was better for our girls, but North Olmsted stayed hot and expanded their lead to 319 pins heading into the Baker games. Two Baker games later and Olmsted Falls claimed the win 1780 to 1450. Brooke Yeager had high game honors (157) while Kaitlyn Drew had high series (283). The team Baker games were 125 and 125.

The JV boys were ready to be back on the lanes after their perfect season was spoiled earlier in the week. The first game saw our boys get hot while Olmsted Falls struggled as we opened a 187-pin lead. The second game was pretty much a repeat of the first, allowing our boys to blow open the lead to 391 pins. Two strong Baker games later and our boys claimed another win 2023 to 1580. Our Baker games were 168 & 176. Xander O'Brien had high score (217) and high series (392). Also bowling well were Grayson McDowell (197 game/341 series), Andrew Nickolay (178 game/348 series) and Lucas McMullen (168 game/327 series).

Our JV girls were happy to have another opponent to bowl, even though the result did not go our way. The first game saw our girls bowl pretty well on our home lanes, but Olmsted Falls had an advantage with 4 bowlers to our 3 bowlers, which allowed them to open a 142-pin lead. The second game saw our girls still bowl fairly well while Olmsted Falls cooled off, but their lead still increased to 196 pins. Once the two Baker games were complete, Olmsted Falls had the win 980-721. Paige Kapp had high game (119) while Izzie Trimble had high series (225). Also bowling well was Kate Cunning ham (115 game). Our Baker games were 57 and 45.

The boys & girls varsity teams will be competing at Sectionals this Sunday, February 8th at AMF Medina Lanes in Medina.

2/2/26 - HS Match Recap - North Olmsted

Our KHS bowling teams were back on the lanes facing another tough D1 school - North Olmsted HS - at Slovak Lanes in Lorain. Unfortunately for the first time this year all four teams were tagged with losses.

The varsity boys were facing another difficult team, but with the added challenge of lanes we have not seen this year. The first game saw our boys struggling a little to adapt to the lanes, which allowed North Olmsted to open a 42-pin lead after one. The second game saw some of our boys still trying to adapt as North Olmsted started to find their line resulting in their lead expanding to 144 pins heading into the Baker games. Consistency was still an issue in the Baker games as North Olmsted held on to take the win 2121 to 1979. Gus Hoops had high game (212) and high series (400). The team Baker games were 184 & 144.

Our varsity girls also knew they were facing another one the best girls team in the area, but were ready to try their best. The first game saw most of our girls struggle with the lanes while North Olmsted made all of the right adjustments, allowing them to open a 162 pin lead. The second game was better for our girls as they adjusted to the lanes, but North Olmsted stayed at a higher level and expanded their lead to 238 pins heading into the Baker games. North Olmsted maintained their pace through the two Baker games to claim the win 1869 to 1558. Kaitlyn Drew had high game honors (191) and high series (369). The team Baker games were 107 and 182.

The JV boys perfect season unfortunately came to an end today. The first game saw both teams bowl pretty well with North Olmsted opening a 37-pin lead. The second game saw both teams fall off slightly, allowing our boys to cut their lead to just 13 pins. Both teams bowled very good Baker games, but North Olmsted was just a little bit better as they claimed the win 1817 to 1773. Our Baker games were 153 & 176. Xander O'Brien and Zachary Skomrock tied for high score (171) while Zachary had high series (333). Also bowling well was Grayson McDowell (166 game).

Our JV girls' were very happy to have an opponent to bowl, even though the result did not go our way. The first game saw our girls bowl pretty well on lanes they had never been to, while the North Olmsted girls came out hot, which allowed them to open a 100-pin lead. The second game saw our girls still bowl fairly well while North Olmsted stayed hot as the lead expanded to 182 pins. Our girls were the better team during the Baker games, but North Olmsted held on for the win 871-708. Paige Kapp had high game (120) and high series (217) - both new personal bests. Also bowling well was Izzie Trimble (119 game/209 series). Our Baker games were 69 and 73.

Our next match is SENIOR NIGHT - Wednesday, February 4th against Olmsted Falls at Strikeout Lanes in Wellington.

1/31/26 - HS Tourney Recap - NSBC Varsity Tournament

Our varsity boys & girls competed in yesterday's NSBC Conference Tournament at Rebman Recreation in Lorain, a key tune-up before next week's sectionals. The boys finished 5th out of 11 and the girls finished 4th out of 10.

The varsity boys bowled fairly well, but struggled with consistency during the day. Our first game of 876 was not as strong as we had hoped to open with, which put us in a tie with Fairview at 5th place. The second game of 971 was much better and moved us up to 4th place, just 25 pins out of 3rd. Unfortunately, the third game brought big struggles with a score of 786 and a move down to 5th place. Our 6 Baker games were also inconsistent which led to our final placement of 5th, just 35 pins out of 4th. Gavin Toothman was our top series placer, tied for 9th for the day with a solid 586 series. Joining him in the top 25 series was Gus Hoops (519) for 24th. Ethan Leiby led us with the 6th highest game of the day with a 243. Joining him in the top 20 games were Gavin Toothman (204) for 19th and Gus Hoops (201) for 20th.

Our varsity girls did well considering recent lineup changes and lacking some experience. The first game of 594 showed a little bit of the nerves as we did not get off to a strong start, which put us in 4th place. The second game of 600 was not much better as we found ourselves in a tie for 4th place with Wellington. The third game of 635 was better, but had us locked into 4th place. 94 pins out of 3rd. Our 6 Baker games started off fairly good but tailed off at the end, leading to our final placement of 4th, 105 pins out of 3rd. Kaitlyn Drew was our top series placer in 10th for the day with a 423 series. Also in the top 25 series were Brooke Yeager (384) for 14th and Malenna Andel (376) in 16th. Kaitlyn and Brooke both had the 9th highest game of the day, each shooting a 158. Joining them in the top 20 games was Malenna Andel (145) for 19th.

Overall, the coaches are happy with the experience we gained and the effort everyone put forth. As much as both teams wished they had done a little better, the bigger prize is next week at sectionals & this tournament definely benefited us.

Our next match will be Monday, February 2nd against North Olmsted HS at Slovak Lanes in Lorain.

 1/5/26 - HS Match Recap - Firelands

The KHS bowling teams were ready to start 2026 with a bang against the always tough Firelands team at Strikeout Lanes. All four teams came away with wins.

Our varsity boys teams have had troubles in recent years being able to beat the Firelands varsity boys teams. This year's squad was looking to end that curse. The first game saw our boys come out of the gate hot as Firelands struggled mightily trying to adjust to our lanes, which allowed us to race out to a large 193-pin lead after one. The second game our boys cool off a little while Firelands improved a little as the lead expanded to 261 pins heading to the Baker games. Two Baker games later found our boys walking away with their 8th win 2248 to 1940. David Jones had high game (231) and top series (423). The second game saw us improve slightly while Firelands really improved, which cut our lead to just 4 pins heading to the Baker games. Our girls were strong as usual in the Baker games, putting up two very solid Bakers to claim their 9th win of the season 1714 to 1678. Kaitlyn Drew had high game honors (170) and high series (326). Also bowling well were Brooke Yeager (164 game/315 series) and Kelly Vargo (158 game/296 series). The team Baker games were 157 and 148.

 12/17/25 - HS Match Recap - Oberlin

The KHS bowling teams had their last match of 2025 against a greatly improved Oberlin team at Rebman Recreation. Three of our four teams came away with wins.

The varsity boys knew going into the match that this was not the same old Oberlin varsity boys team that had been an easy win in the past. The first game saw our boys come out of the gate hot to set the tone early as they bowled their highest score of the season so far to stake a 155-pin lead after one. The second game our boys cool off while Oberlin improved, which cut the lead to 102 pins heading to the Baker games. Both teams put up decent Baker scores as our boys held on for the win 2282 to 2186. Gavin Toothman set new personal highs to take high game (270) and top series (461). Also bowling well were Gus Hoops (215 game/417 series), Drew Hetsler (202 game/377 series) and David Jones (191 game). The team Baker games were 194 & 160.

The varsity girls were facing the first-ever Oberlin varsity girls team that is having good season. The first game saw a few of our girls struggling again with the lane conditions, but so were our opponents as we managed to open a 100-pin lead after one. The second game we found our shots better as a team, which allowed us to extend our lead to 219 pins heading to the Baker games. Our girls put up to very solid Baker games to claim their 8th win of the season 1654 to 1361. Kaitlyn Drew had high game honors (175) while Brooke Yeager had high series (330). The team Baker games were 157 and 134.

The JV boys were trying to stay perfect to end the year as they faced the Oberlin JV boys team. As has become the case, our JV boys took out all of the suspense early in opening up a large 154-pin lead after one and never looked back in easily cruising to their 9th win of the year by a score of 1860 to 1346. Our JV girls had another opportunity to face an opponent as Oberlin fielded a full JV girls team. Unfortunately for us, we only had 3 girls available to bowl and despite a good effort, our JV girls we handed their first loss of the season 1114 to 737. Malenna Andel had high game (125) and high series (232). Also bowling well was Izzie Trimble (114 game/210 series). Our girls put up two really good Baker games of 124 and 116.

Our next match will be Monday, January 5th against Firelands HS at Strikeout Lanes in Wellington.

 12/15/25 - HS Match Recap - Westlake

The KHS bowling teams started their final week before the holiday break by heading back on the road to Rebman Recreation to face for the first time ever the Division 1 team from Westlake. It was a good night as all four of our teams picked up victories.

The varsity boys were trying to extend their 4 match winning streak against a very good Westlake varsity boys team. The first game saw both teams come out fairly strong, matching shot for shot. The second game we cooled off a little as Clearview found their shots, but we still managed to push the lead out to 290 pins heading to the Baker games. Just like Monday, we never let up in the Bakers as we walked away with the big win 2343 to 2009. Gavin Toothman had high game (234) while Drew Hetsler had top series (422). The first game took all of the suspense from the match as our girls stayed in great form to open a large 258-pin lead after one. The second game was pretty much a repeat of the first as our lead grew to 563 pins heading to the Baker games. Two very solid Bakers later and we were back to our winning ways 1743 to 1041. The varsity boys were riding a two-match winning streak hoping to extend it against a rebuilding Open Door varsity boys team. The first game saw all of the suspense taken out of the match as our boys shot their second-best game of the season to open up a huge 187-pin lead after one. The varsity girls were in the match of the day trying to stay undefeated against an also undefeated opponent in Open Door CS team who has several returning bowlers that went to State last year. The first game was a real back and forth battle a number of the girls on both teams stepped up to bowl some very solid games. We did just enough to have a 10-pin lead after one. The second game started off much like the first as their were some very good games, but Open Door was a little more balanced as they took a 38-pin lead heading to the Baker games. We started out very strong in the Bakers and it looked like we were cutting into their lead, but an untimely open combined with them getting 3 strikes in a row caused their lead to expand to 57 pins. Unfortunately, the wheels completely came off for us as Open Door kept up their pace and give us our first loss 1816 to 1676. Kaitlyn Drew kept up her great bowling as of late with high game honors (193) and high series (362). Also bowling well were Brooke Yeager (174 game/330 series) and Kelly Vargo (161 game/290 series). The first game saw Lutheran West enjoying the conditions as our boys tried to find their bearings on the lanes, which allowed Lutheran West to open a 162-pin lead. The second game we made the right adjustments and got hot, but Lutheran West only dropped a little as we cut the lead to 128 pins heading into the Baker games. The team Baker games were 141 & 166.

Our varsity girls are returning 5 bowlers from the team that went to Districts last year along with a large group of talented sophomore girls eager to help. Lutheran West is not fielding any girls bowling teams this year, so we are credited with our first win of the season 1547 to 0. Our girls still bowled a full match and made great adjustments to lanes that we were seeing for the first time ever. Kaitlyn Drew had high game honors (164) and high series (291).
